Practice News Story 1: Accident

Yesterday afternoon around 4 p.m., a Dodge van carrying about 10 Utah State University students rolled on Interstate 84, just West of Tremonton.
They were on their way home from an Agricultural Systems Department field trip.

Kyle Holden, who is the manager at a farm implement store was driving his truck along side the van. Holden said that Professor Parker was the one driving the van. They weren’t going faster than 80 MPH, because Holden passed them going 80 MPH.

People in the van have not been named yet. Robbie Peterson was one of them, he was taken to a hospital in Ogden, 3 others were taken by life flight, and one was taken in an ambulance. Survivors are being flown to neighboring hospitals.

Police Lieutenant Ed Michaund was the first law enforcement officer on the scene. He said, “It’s one of the worst things I’ve had to witness.” Kyle Holden and Jennie Smith were the only witnesses. They tried to help as much as they could, but everyone was in bad shape. Jennie recalled seeing a big dust cloud after they went off the road. She was the one to call 911.
